Welcome to mykidshealth.co.uk, where we’ll be talking about the latest health issues for kids. We hope to offer information on children’s health, diets and exercise plans – as well dispel any myths surrounding kids’ health issues. We will point people in the right direction and create a forum for discussion on children’s health matters.

Hello Rachel
Have just come across your website and it looks very interesting. I’m in the process of writing a book about avoiding childhood obesity.
But in the meantime………… I have just released the 2nd edition of “Stop Bedwetting in 7 days”. The first edition of this book came out in Sept 2009 and has been hugely popular so I decided it would be good to update it and generally add to it.
Around a million children in this country continue to wet their beds at night, long after they should have grown out of it. There’s very little on offer to help them – basically they are told to sit it out because they’ll grow out of it (not easily done), or they can use an alarm (again not always successful) or they get prescribed medication by the doctors.
This is the bit that doesn’t please me a great deal – I see a lot of children who are prescribed drugs to dry up all their bodily fluids (not great!) and then if this doesn’t work they can be prescribed anti-depressants because a side effect is to dry up the bodily fluids too. Needless to say, if it worked all the time, these children wouldn’t be coming to see me! Sometimes children take these drugs for a few years without it solving their bedwetting problem. It’s sooooooo unhealthy for them.
You can read more about what I do on the website addresses I’ve left for you. By all means contact me if you’d like to know more or feel that we could collaborate.
All the best,
Alicia Eaton

Hay there,
I’m writing from Medikidz, a publisher of comic books for children, which explain life-changing medical conditions. (www.medikidz.com)
We are currently working with the Niemann-Pick Disease group to both educate and raise awareness for Niemann Pick Type C – a very rare genetic condition, which is often called Childhood Dementia.
*Dr Chris Steel, This Morning’s Resident GP, is fully supporting the campaign.
*This is a one in a million disease, which is severely life-limiting.
*It is often mis-diagnosed as ADHD.
*It has very sad symptoms: one in particular is not being able to laugh without collapsing- a condition called cartoplexy which affects NP-C patients.
*This is timely as it is Rarer Disease Awareness Month in July.
*To help raise awareness we are touring the country delivering our Medikidz Explains NP-C comic to every patient, family and local community where patients live.
*We have families, charity spokespeople and expert clinicians available for interview.

PRESS RELEASE
This Morning’s Dr Chris Steel, MBE Supports the ‘Medikidz on the Road for NP-C’ Campaign
Delivering the ‘Medikidz Explain Niemann-Pick Type C’ comic book to every young patient in the UK, during Rarer Diseases Month
http://medikidzontheroad.com/
Medikidz, a specialist children’s publisher, has teamed up with the Niemann-Pick Disease Group (NPDG) to tour the country, raising awareness for the rare genetic condition, Niemann Pick Type C. The tour will deliver the ‘Medikidz Explains NP-C’ comic book across the UK, to patients, families, schools and communities affected by this rare genetic disease.
Dr. Chris Steele, MBE, This Morning’s Resident GP, said of the campaign:
“In all my time as a GP, I had never heard of any medical information available to help my young patients understand all of the different diseases they were diagnosed with. That’s why I was so excited to come across Medikidz, and all the wonderful support they provide for sick children and their families.
He adds: “It is inspirational to see such a passionate team of young doctors working to improve the plight of young patients all around the world. It’s fantastic that they cover rare genetic diseases such as NPC, as uncommon conditions are even more likely to be overlooked.”
Dr. Kim-Chilman-Blair, Founder of Medikidz, said:
“The Niemann Pick Disease Group does amazing work, and that’s why we wanted to work with them to create the NP-C comic book. Our combined mission is to make sure that such a complex condition can be explained clearly to those patients who may be frightened or confused. We also aim to help families, friends and classmates know exactly what is happening to their friend or loved one.
Dr. Kim Chilman-Blair adds:
“Medikidz believes that every child has a right to medical information they can understand. Our entire ethos is about educating and empowering young people. This tour will have a positive impact by helping communities understand what this serious genetic disorder is, while raising money for this incredible charity.”
Dave Roberts, Chair of the Niemann-Pick Disease Group UK said:
“We are proud to be part of this very exciting campaign that will have such a positive impact on the families and communities affected by Niemann-Pick Disease, Type C. Medikidz have a unique way of raising awareness and communicating information about this disease and we are extremely grateful for their support.”

About NP-C:
In Niemann-Pick Type C, patients have too much cholesterol or other fatty acids in their body’s cells, which can affect the brain and other organs, leading to progressive intellectual decline, loss of motor skills, seizures and dementia. Speech can become slurred and swallowing problems may develop. The rate at which the disease progresses varies greatly between patients; children who develop neurological symptoms in early childhood are thought to have a more aggressive form of the disease, others may remain symptom free for many years.
About Medikidz:
Medikidz is the world’s first medical information company for children. We write, illustrate and publish a wide range of comic books that explain medical conditions in clear language.
We want every child to have access to medical information, not only to help those who suffer from medical conditions, but to raise awareness of illnesses in order to improve treatment and make sure everyone knows how their bodies work.
Medikidz believes that every child deserves access to medical information they can understand.
We are creating a global community of young people who are informed, empowered, and health-aware.
About The Niemann-Pick Disease Group:
The Niemann-Pick Disease Group (UK) is a registered charity aiming to make a positive difference to the lives of those affected by Niemann-Pick disease (NPD) and their families, through the provision of care and support, accurate information and the promotion of relevant research. We are committed to relieving sickness and distress amongst such families and, to providing emotional, as well as practical support. Through the development of a strong family support network, we aim to help reduce feelings of isolation and despair for those who suffer from this serious genetic disease.
