  • Miley Cyrus fights off rumours of anorexia nervosa

Filed under: News — Posted by: Linda on April 12, 2012

After losing weight recently, Miley Cyrus has faced a barrage of rumours that the singer and actress has an eating disorder. The 19 year old has been showing off a much sleeker figure recently, but insists that the weight loss is due to allergies and not anorexia nervosa.

Miley has been jogging regularly, along with her dog and going to Pilate’s classes to help tone her figure. However, the star of Hannah Montana suffers from an allergy to lactose and gluten. In a recent Twitter post, she said:

“For everyone calling me anorexic I have a gluten and lactose allergy. It’s not about weight it’s about health. Gluten is crapppp anyway!”

According to Miley, a gluten free diet improves skin and health, both physical and mental. Weight loss coach, Alicia Hunter who also wrote The Accidental Diet: From Fugly to Fox, warned that the singer and actress shouldn’t lower her calorie intake anymore, as further weight loss could make her too thin. Although Miley is a fan of a gluten-free diet, extolling its virtues, experts say that not eating gluten when you don’t have a gluten allergy can be harmful to health. A gluten free diet omits barley, wheat, rye and triticale.

Although experts are concerned at rising levels of childhood obesity, eating disorders like anorexia nervosa are just as alarming. A healthy diet which doesn’t omit any food group unless necessary for health, and regular exercise are recommended to keep children healthy.
